College of Engineering Pune is an autonomous institute of the Government of Maharashtra, established in 1854 as the Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School, this institute was first under the affiliation of the University of Bombay.
COEP is the third oldest engineering institute of Asia. The COEP was also one of the first institutes built by the British in pre-independent India.

Earlier the admissions in 1st year B.Tech and B.Planning were based upon the percentage of science subjects’ marks secured in Higher Secondary Certificate exam of Maharashtra State, and later on the basis of marks scored in Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET).
However, at present the admissions are conducted on the basis marks of secured in Maharashtra CET and HSC board combined.

Management Quota in Top 10 Engineering Colleges in Pune
Admissions for B.Tech (Engineering) Programmes in Pune are done through MHT-CET and JEE Main.
Students from Maharashtra State or holding Maharashtra State Domicile will get admission on the basis of their ranks in MHT-CET or/and JEE Main, while students from outside the Maharashtra State will get admission based on their ranks in JEE Main.
Therefore, it is compulsory to appear into either MHT-CET or JEE Main or both, without appearing into these probably admission will not be done.
