R.V.C.E is spread over 51.4 acres (20.8 ha) on the banks of the Vrishabhavati River in Bengaluru. The nearest commuter railway station is Jnanabharati Station, and the nearest major railway station is the Bangalore City Railway Station.

Campus

The institute has a post office with postal identification as R.V. Vidyaniketan P.O, and a bank operated by Kotak Mahindra on its campus. The canteen serves a variety of cuisines, including North Indian, South Indian and Chinese. The campus is equipped with Wi-Fi routers, over its entirety. The institute also operates a health centre, with round the clock medical supervision available. Students and staff can also avail on campus gym facilities as well.

Hostels

R.V.C.E has 5 hostel blocks on campus, with 3 blocks being occupied by students and 2 blocks under renovation for the coming term. The hostel blocks below use are the Diamond Jubilee Hostel for first years, New Cauvery Block for second years, third years and MCA students, & the Sir. M. Visvesvaraya Block institute the final year students. The hostels on campus accommodate boys only. The institute, along with the managing trust (RSST) operates 4 other hostels in Bangalore located in Jayanagar, J.P. Nagar, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar meant exclusively for the girls.

Environmental Initiatives

A rainwater harvesting system sponsored by KPMG has been installed near the Telecommunication B.Tech block, and a similar system is in place near the administrative block, the construction of which was supervised by the department of Civil. Both the harvesting systems make use of a sump, and the stored water is typically used for gardening purposes.

Students are admitted to undergraduate courses on basis of their performance in either Karnataka Common Entrance Test, or in the COMED-K test. Students are also admitted through a management quota, which does not place merit requirements. There is a lateral entry scheme in place, by which students holding diploma degrees can enter directly to the second year of study in B.Tech. Students, upon graduating, receive a Bachelor of B.Tech degree.

Students are admitted to postgraduate courses on basis of their GATE test scores, as well as on their Post Graduate Karnataka CET scores.

B.E/B.Tech Admissions at R.V.C.E, Bangalore the Eligibility criteria and the Selection Process for B.Tech program is that:

§ The candidates who are applying to R.V.C.E, Bangalore for the B.Tech program have to clear 10th and 12th examination or its equivalent.
§ At R.V.C.E, 45% of marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and any one of the followings: CS/Biology/Biotechnology/Electronics is mandatory for the candidates.
§ Applicants should possess a JEE Mains/CET/COMEDK valid score in order to get admissions at R.V.C.E.

§ B.Tech admissions will be as per the candidate’s eligibility which fulfils the R.V.C.E fixed criteria as well as the candidate’s performance in the entrance exam.

Course Content and Grading

All the departments which have been conferred autonomous status set their own course content and grading system. R.V.C.E follows the credit-based system of performance evaluation, with proportional weighting of courses based on their importance. For each semester, the students are graded by taking a weighted average from all the courses with their respective credit points. Each semester’s evaluation is done independently with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) reflecting the average performance across semesters. The medium of instruction is English.

Annual Institute Festival

8th Mile is the main annual techno-cultural festival of the institute and features inter- institute competitions and concerts each night, popularly known as “Pro-shows”. Department Events

The Science Forum of the institute, consisting of freshman students conducts Genesis, the intercollegiate festival. Apart from this, each department conducts its own festivals, some of them being React (Department of Chemical), Infinity (Department of Information Science and), Impulse (Department of Electronics and Communication), Helix (Department of Biotechnology), Vortex (Department of Mechanica), Vantage (Department of Instrumentation Technology) and Connect (Department of Telecommunication). All of these are intercollegiate technical and cultural festivals.

Cultural Activities

The Cultural Activities Team overlooks the functioning of all cultural clubs in the institute which are led by student and faculty heads. Footprints, the dance club of R.V.C.E, conducts one of the largest institute hip-hop festivals called FLARE. R.V Quizcorp, the quiz club of R.V.C.E conducts the national level institute and corporate quiz festival, below the Peepal Tree each year. R.V.C.E ‘s theatre team, Circle of Acting at R.V (CARV) has participated and won at National and International level theatre festivals in English, Hindi and Kannada. They also annually conduct a 2-day theatre festival called Coliseum which sees participation from teams from across India.

Sports

Cricket and Football are widely played across the institute campus. The institute has a cricket team, which has won major competitions like the Chamaraju Memorial inter-collegiate tournament. The institute football team has excelled in tournaments like the VTU South Zone football tournaments. Basketball is fast gaining popularity among the women, after the women’s team excelled in University tournaments, as well as other tournaments. The institute Badminton team frequently excels in university-level tournaments, having won many of them.

Social Service

The Rotaract Club of R.V.C.E is affiliated to Rotary International District 3190 The club conducts blood donation camps, National pulse polio drives, tree plantation drives and eye check-up camps. Raag is the youth club of R.V.C.E. The club provides the students a platform to showcase their leadership skills, talents in music, art and craft and also literary interests by organizing institute level events like Opinions, an open discussion forum. The club, along with the National Service Scheme unit of institute, organizes visit to leprosarium’s and orphanages. It organizes an Eye Pledging Camp in association with the Lions Eye Bank, Bangalore.
