Seminar on business of restaurants

It was an occasion for students to learn the lessons in sustainable excellence from professionals who run the four of the iconic and legendary restaurants in Bangalore. The seminar brought to the fore success stories, survival techniques and key business acumen to thrive in an intensely competitive field.

The seminar proved to be an inspiration for the students and faculty, planning on incubating an idea in this field. According to Arun Adiga, being consistent and managing people, employees and customers, well have been the reasons for Vidyarthi Bhavan’s success.

Srinivas Rao of Taaza Thindi felt that short menu, affordable to all, focus on hygiene and quality, taking good care of employees will be the key success factors for restaurants in future. Mr. G.K. Shetty of Swati Hospitality felt that ability to take risks, maintaining balance and working hard are key to attaining success as an entrepreneur.

Krishna Shantakumar of 13th Floor and Ebony and Pravesh Pandey of Byg Brewski shared their valuable insights about the restaurants’ business. The one day seminar “Business of Restaurants”, held on the campus on September 25, 2018 was attended by students of department of hospitality and event management.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti
PESU has taken the initiative of conducting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2018 at Lalbagh Botanical garden, Bangalore, under the guidance of Dr. M R Doreswamy, Chancellor, PESU and the staff of lalbagh.

The students had an enthusiastic outlook towards the event and 300+ of them participated in this cleanliness drive.Addressing this enthusiastic crowd, Dr. M R Doreswamy said that the PESU is celebrating Gandhi Jayanti by conducting this Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The initiative which was started 4 years ago by our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has reached such a great milestone that today we are paying our tribute to Mahatma Gandhi ji through it. He added that while the PM himself takes broom and cleans the country, the youngsters could definitely make a difference. Lacks of toilets have been constructed and our PM has given a new direction to the drive.

The chancellor also stated that there was a time when the country was looked down by the westerners due to cleanliness issues and now the entire country is proud to see the change. Stating the example of Amitabh Bachan himself cleaning a village after seeing no change in people which afterwards made a lot of difference, Dr. M R Doreswamy stated this was a second consecutive year of PESU celebrating the activity of Swachh Bharat.

He also stated the donation of 100 dustbins throughout the stretch of lalbagh alongside and installation of 30 dustbins in the first instalment was done today. He has stated about the initative will be taken at lalbagh for construction of toilet. He further motivated the students to adopt lalbagh and participate actively in the event for which the students’ response was outstanding.

‌The main motto of this drive is to spread awareness about keeping the surroundings and hence the country clean. To achieve this vision of CSR Club of PESU, the students began the event by conducting a serene awareness walk which highlighted the importance of waste segregation and management.

The students were grouped and allotted areas in order to cover the large area of lalbagh efficiently headed by group leaders. Taking forward the idea of green, clean and pollution free country of our PM Narendra Modi ji was the main agenda of the event.

The paper on Robust Voice Activity Detection Using Frequency Domain Long-Term Differential Entropy jointly authored by Debayan Ghosh was accepted for oral presentation at Interspeech 2018. Workshop on IoT Application Development
A hands-on experience of IoT and sensors brought forth the immense opportunities this domain offers in solving practical problems quickly and cost effectively. The workshop covered IoT related: physical and logical design, enabling technologies and levels, domain specific applications and platform design methodology.
