Brief Explanation about MS Ramaiah Institute

Ramaiah Institute of Technology (RIT), formerly M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT), is an autonomous private b.tech college located in Bangalore, Karnataka, and is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University headquartered at Belgaum, Karnataka, India.

The college was established in 1962. Since August 2007, RIT has been academically autonomous for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs. While VTU will still award the degrees, the college has academic freedom in framing its own schemes of study, curricula and student evaluation.

RIT offers undergraduate and graduate courses of study and research including Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Technology, Master of Business Administration and offers programs leading to awards of PhD in various disciplines. RIT is also a research center in 12 areas including engineering and management disciplines. RIT is the only b.tech college in Bangalore that is autonomous for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The institute has academic alliances with Intel, IBM, Schneider Electric, JSW Steel Ltd, Cognizant EMC, Nokia and other multinationals. It also partnered ISRO in 2010 to build the StudSat nanosatellite and RIT was chosen in 2012 to join the consortium of colleges that would assist ISRO in thepresntl StudSat-2. The institute is also credited for the development of India’s first unmanned air vehicle (UAV) with an autopilot system. .

MSRIT – A Momentous Journey Spanning 50 Years….

The year 2011-12 is a Golden Jubilee Year and MSRIT launched the celebration with a glittering inauguration event graced by His Excellency Prof. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kalam succinctly summed up MSRIT’s seminal contribution to engineering education and the nation as follows… “During the last 50 years, MSRIT would have generated more than 35,000 engineers and technologists who are deployed in various fields in India and abroad…”

ABOUT FOUNDER

Dr. M.S. Ramaiah rose from humble origins to become a highly popular and respected individual, recognized for his philanthropy, vision, and values. Realizing the importance of quality education in shaping a modern India, he started the Gokula Education Foundation(GEF) in 1962. MSRIT was the first of the many institutions created under its aegis, a pioneering effort when it came to privatization of higher education.

Today GEF owns and manages several institutions offering quality education in various disciplines – Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Hotel Management, Business Management, Engineering, Law and Pure Sciences, contributing significantly towards creating an educated and self reliant community.

Dr. M.S. Ramaiah was awarded an honourary Doctorate by the University of Tumkur. He was conferred a second Doctorate by VTU in 2012 in recognition of his efforts.

Undergraduate Courses Eligibility

A candidate who has passed 10 + 2 pattern of examination (equivalent to the two year Pre University in Karnataka) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics as optional subjects in the qualifying examination is eligible to pursue an undergraduate degree in b.tech at MSRIT. The eligibility for admission is 45% in case of General Category and 40% marks in the qualifying examination in case of SC/ST, Category-1 and OBC Category candidates.

This provided that the marks obtained by the candidate in Biotechnology/Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics in the qualifying examination will be considered in the place of Chemistry. In case the marks obtained in Chemistry is less for the required aggregate percentage for the purpose of determination of eligibility (and not for the purpose of determination of rank, in respect of engineering/technology courses).
