The COMEDK has been assigned the responsibility to organize or conduct testing procedures to determine the merit of aspiring students in an effective, fair, transparent and non-exploitative procedure by KPCF (Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation – Medical & Dental) and KUPECA (Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association).
By this, COMEDK has been serving 16 Medical, 24 Dental and around 190 Engineering Colleges.
Over the last 15 years, COMEDK has been conducting the annual entrance exam COMEDK UGET for Undergraduate and COMEDK PGET for Postgraduate courses offered in the member institutions and also been organizing single window centralized counseling process.
In all these years, the efforts of COMEDK have been appreciated by all the Government appointed Admission Overseeing Committees and also been mentioned by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India as the model examination.
As the National Eligibility -cum- Entrance Test (NEET) being required and the only acceptable entrance exam for admission to Medical and Dental courses in the country, COMEDK continues the evaluation process for the members of KUPECA i.e. around 190 Engineering colleges.
For the current academic year 2022-23, COMEDK would conduct an online examination all over India on 19th June 2022 (Sunday), across 150+ centers for Engineering programs which offer around 20000 seats and will be followed by online counseling.
COMEDK UGET
COMEDK Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) is state-level online entrance test conducted yearly for 1st year B.E Program Admission in Private Engineering Colleges available across the Karnataka State.
This Entrance Exam conducted in online mode or computer based test for B.E or B.Tech Admission in about 190 Engineering Colleges in order to fill around 20000 seats.
Unlike KCET, COMEDK UGET is applicable for students from the Karnataka as well as outside the Karnataka State.
COMEDK is not conducting separate test for B.Arch (Architecture) Program, but based on candidate’s NATA and/or JEE Main Paper-II marks COMEDK is organizing single window centralized counseling process.

COMEDK Engineering Colleges
As we discussed above in this article, that about 190 Engineering Colleges are under KUPECA (Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association) participating in the COMEDK Counseling for 1st year B.E or B.Tech and B.Arch Programs.
Most among all these participating Engineering Colleges are affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is one of the largest technical universities of India, headquartered in Belagavi (Belgaum) Karnataka.
Some of them are Deemed University or Private University which are PES University, Christ University, Alliance University, CMR University, and Presidency University, are the few names.
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)
The University came into existence in the year 1998 to cater the needs of Indian industries for trained technical manpower with practical experience and sound theoretical knowledge.
The university has 219 affiliated colleges, 1 constituent college and 17 Autonomous colleges in four regional centers.
The University offers undergraduate courses in 35 disciplines, PG program in 94 disciplines and Ph.D. & M.Sc (Engg.) with research programs in 592 departments, over 4 lakhs Engineering Students study in the various institutes affiliated to the University.
The University has 13 Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) centers in various affiliated colleges and 16 extension centers for offering PG programs.
Autonomous Engineering Colleges
These Autonomous Engineering Colleges will have the freedom to decide the syllabus, conduct their own semester exams, internal exams, and grading systems.
Only the degree will be awarded by VTU Belagavi to students from graduating from these colleges.
There are about 17 Autonomous Engineering Colleges in Karnataka affiliated to VTU Belagavi.
Non-Autonomous Engineering Colleges
These Non-Autonomous Engineering Colleges have to follow the same syllabus provided by VTU and Semester Exams are conducted by university. Evaluation & Grading is also done by the University itself.
Non-Autonomous Colleges can only conduct the Internal Tests or Assessments for 200 marks out of 700 Marks per semester.
Non-Autonomous Colleges have to follow the common syllabus as provided by the university.
