BMSIT Bangalore Direct Admission for Mechanical Engineering BMS Institute of Technology is a private co-educational engineering college in Bangalore affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. It was founded by BS Narayan, son of educationist BM Sreenivasaiah, and is managed by the BMS Educational Trust. It is the sister institution of BMS College of Engineering, a well established government-aided engineering college in India. BMS Institute of Technology is recognized as a Research Centre by VTU.

Mechanical Engineering @ BMSIT Bangalore

Mechanical Engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the need to design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices to large systems.

The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. In order to accomplish this, a broad range of skills are needed. One skill that is the mechanical engineer’s exclusive domain is the ability to analyze and design objects and systems with motion.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2002-03 with an approved intake of sixty students. The Department consists of twenty efficient faculty members of which five are Doctoral members.

All faculty members are well experienced and research-oriented. Presently many of the faculty members are pursuing their doctoral degrees. All the laboratories are furnished with state-of-the-art equipment, licensed software, and IBM PCs.

The Department is consistently achieving good results over the years. Many of the students are placed in MNCs and other core companies.

The Department is recognized as a research center by VTU under which eight research scholars are working in various extents of engineering. The Department started a post-graduate course in MACHINE DESIGN in the year 2014.

Fest @ Mechanical Engineering Department

The Forum for Mechanical Engineering is a club run by students under the guidance and support of the faculty. Under this club, the department conducts an inter-collegiate technical fest titled “UTHKHANANA”, annually during the odd semester; with widespread participation from students of other colleges.

Events conducted for the past few years include paper presentations, poster presentations, quizzes and mock placements along with other events exclusive to the Department.

Achievements @ Mechanical Engineering Department

  1. VTU Ranks by the department so far: 2008- Mary Ernackle Abraham Abraham (3rd Rank), 2012- Hemanth Kumar (10th rank), 2013- Kanishk Bhadani (8th rank).
  2. Mariam Tahoora of 6th semester has won the Wipro Earthian 2015, an Essay competition in the College category.
  3. Several special courses are organized on CATIA and HYPERMESH for students.
  4. Project work entitled “Smart Bicycle” guided by R.G.Deshpande and carried out by 8th semester mechanical engineering students: Pradeep.S, Akash Asopa, and Raghu SN, was selected for the final round of exhibition under students’ project proposal approved by KSCST held at BVB College Of Engineering, Hubli.
  5. The Department organizes industrial visits for the higher semester students in order to impart holistic education and a better understanding of the theoretical concepts. The various educational visits for the previous years have included visits to Visvesvaraya Technological Museum, GTRE, ISRO, Thermal Power Plant, Bellary, federal mogul, HMT Bangalore, etc.
  6. Siddharth Kashyap (8th Sem), participated in and won the Regional Championship at the intercollegiate level of the “Simply Finance Quiz 2014 Bangalore” organized by Tata Mutual Fund.
  7. The Forum for Mechanical Engineering is a club run by students under the guidance and support of the faculty. Under this club, the department conducts an inter-collegiate technical fest titled “UTHKHANANA”, annually with widespread participation from students of other colleges.
  8. BMS Institute of Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KPIT Technologies (2014), Federal Mogul (2014), and NDRF (2015) aiming for training faculty members.
  9. The Department started the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) INDIA BMSIT Collegiate club; under which various activities including FDP, industrial visits, seminars, workshops, and competitions are organized. In the year 2015, a two-day workshop on “Automobile Electronics” was organized in collaboration with IISC (Bangalore).
  10. Mr. Praveen Kumar T. N was granted an amount of six lakhs under the VTU Research Grant Scheme for the project titled, “Development and comprehensive characterization of aluminum ceramic-microsphere foamed composite.”
  11. The faculty of the Department has published more than 40 papers in various national and international, conferences and journals.
  12. Dr. HK Govindaraju and Dr. A.V Suresh have been nominated as a member of VTU Belgaum Local Inspection Committee.
  13. In the quest for academic excellence leading to global standards and to provide a platform for the students graduating from the portals of BMSIT, the Department has adopted the practice of Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
  14. The students are encouraged to work on both in-house projects and also with various companies like HMT, BHEL, HAL, Indian Railways, Bharath Fritz Werner, L&T, Komatsu Ltd., Federal Moghul, etc.
  15. The sixth and eighth semester students developed small scale projects and participated in the State Rotary Bangalore Udyog and Standard international precision Engineering (P) for RUSI award.

Mechanical Engineering Admissions @ BMSIT Bangalore
