The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in BMS College of Engineering was started in 1983 with an intake of 60 students for undergraduate programme. The intake was increased to 90 seats in 2000 and 120 in 2011. The department of Computer Science & Engineering also has PG programme, M Tech (CSE) established in1992 with an intake of 18. The Research Centre, Department of Computer Science & Engineering started in the year 2010 under VTU, Belgaum. The research areas of the center covers machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, wireless networks, social networks analysis etc. Currently there are seven registered guides, who are experts in fields like artificial intelligence, wireless networks, medical imaging, computational accelerators, etc. There are 20 research scholars working in the research center.
The department has well qualified, experienced and committed faculty to provide quality industry tuned education to the students. The Department Infrastructure fulfills the requirements of academics, supports research and learning skills on the latest technology in the industry.

Candidates, who are keen to join B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering Program at BMS College of Engineering, should satisfy below mentioned eligibility criteria:
Passed 2nd year Pre University or Class 12th or 10+2 or equivalent examinations with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one of the listed subjects like: Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology with not less than 50% (45% for ST, SC, and OBC) marks in aggregate in optional subjects with English as one of the language subject.
Final year students who were appeared for Class 12th or 10+2 or 2nd year PUC or equivalent examinations and waiting for results are also eligible for admissions to engineering programmed but the marks should not be less than 50% in total.
Note: The relaxation in academic eligibility is extended only to Karnataka candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). The aspiring candidates should also appear for any one of the listed Entrance Exams:
KCET (Common Entrance Test) is a state-level entrance test conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for Admissions into Private and Government Engineering Colleges available in Karnataka State. Students who are domicile of the Karnataka state for seven (07) or more could appear for this exam.
COMEDK-UGET is a state-level entrance test conducted by the association of Private Engineering, Medical and Dental Colleges in Karnataka for Admission to B.E. or B-Tech Courses in Private Engineering Colleges in the Karnataka State affiliated to COMEDK. Students from anywhere in India can appear for this entrance test.
JEE-Main (Joint Entrance Examination) is a national-level entrance exam conducted CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), New Delhi for admissions to engineering programmed at NITs (National Institute of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutes) and other SFTIs (State Funded Technical Institutes) locates across the country.
