ABOUT THE INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES

The BMS College of Engineering has a huge campus that occupies 15 acres of space. There are both old and new structures in the region, along with well-maintained gardens, playgrounds, and roadways.

UG COURSES

CIVIL ENGINEERING

The BMS College of Engineering was founded in 1946, and one of the three initial branches was the department of civil engineering. Academic autonomy status was given to the UG programs by VTU in 2008. In the areas of environmental engineering, transportation engineering, and technology, the department offers three PG programs.

The national board of accreditation in India awarded six years of accreditation in 2014 in recognition of academic achievements under the Washington Agreement (Tier 1). There is a strong preference for innovation and research, and most of the department’s students enter the workforce through placements.

COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING

The computer science and engineering department was founded in 1983. NBA has accredited the department’s undergraduate curriculum. The department of computer science also offers a postgraduate program, the MTech (CSE), which was founded in 1993.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

When the BMS College of Engineering was started in 1946, the department of mechanical engineering was among the three branches that were initially formed. The department provides three postgraduate programs, including M.Tech. programs in thermal engineering, manufacturing science, and machine design. VTU has awarded academic autonomy to the three PG programs thermal engineering, machine design, and manufacturing science & engineering, which began in 2016, and the UG program, which began in 2008. The UG program has been granted tier 1 (Washington Agreement) certification by the national board of accreditation of India for five years, beginning in 2014.

ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

The department of electrical engineering was founded in 1946 and later changed its name to the department of electrical and electronics engineering. The department’s main goal is to give students the skills they need by introducing them to a wide range of topics that will help them become professionals. The student-to-professor ratio in the department is 14:8:1, and it is NBA-accredited under Tier 1 of the Washington Agreement.

ELECTRONICS AND COMUNICATION ENGINEERING

In 1971, BMSCE started its electronics and communication engineering department. Electronics, digital communication engineering, and VLSI design & embedded systems are three of the department’s postgraduate programs. The department has Tier 1 accreditation from NBA (Washington Accord) for a period of 6 years, from 2017 to 2023.

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING & MANAGEMENT

IEM’s department was started in 1979. Industrial engineering and management are available as undergraduate degrees through the department. For Ph.D. and M.Sc. engineering degrees, the department is a recognized research center by VTU.

ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING

In the year 1986, the department of electronics and communications engineering was founded. The department provides a four-year undergraduate program in telecommunication engineering. The department was accredited by NBA.

INFORMATION SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

In 1987, the department of information science and engineering was created. In 2011, the PG program for M.Tech in computer network and engineering through VTU began. According to the Washington Agreement, NBA has granted tier 1 accreditation to the department’s UG and PG programs until 2020–21. With an average placement rate of 95% over the last three years, the department has an excellent placement track record.

ELECTRONICS AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING

In 1991, the Instrumentation Technology Department was established. With force from 2014, VTU updated the program’s name to electronics & instrumentation engineering. The program now accepts 60 students and offers undergraduate degrees. NBA has granted the department Washington Accord tier 1 accreditation.

MEDICAL ELECTRONICS

In 1992, the department of medical electronics engineering was created. The undergraduate program now has 60 applicants, while the department has 18 students accepted into its M.Tech degree in biological signal processing and instrumentation, which it has been offering since 2013. NBA has granted the department accreditation for six years.

BIOTECHNOLOGY

In the year 2002, the department of biotechnology was established. The department’s UG program has been given NBA tier 1 accreditation.  The department’s research center is highly furnished with high-tech machinery.

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

In 1995, the department of chemical engineering was established. In 2004, the department received a five-year accreditation from the NBA. The department was then granted tier 1 accreditation by NBA, India, for a second time in 2014, this time for five years, under the Washington Accord.

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

In the year 2018, the department of aerospace engineering was founded. The department’s teaching and research efforts are concentrated on rotorcraft, autonomous systems, space systems, and unmanned vehicles, which are essential for generating the innovative ideas and transformative insights required to meet today’s most difficult engineering issues.

MACHINE LEARNING

The newest division of the BMS College of Engineering, founded in 2020, is the department of machine learning. Deep learning, data mining, big data, and natural language processing are the main areas of study and research in the department.

ELIGIBILITY FOR UG PROGRAMS (4 YEARS)

KEA/COMED-K

FOR GENERAL CANDIDATES: To be eligible to pursue undergraduate programs, a candidate must have passed the 12th grade with English as one of the languages and obtained a minimum of 45% of the aggregate marks in physics and mathematics, which are required subjects, as well as chemistry, biotechnology, biology, computer science, and electronics, which are optional subjects (BE). For candidates in the SC/ST and OBC categories: Candidates for undergraduate programs must have completed the 12th grade with English as one of the languages and must have received a minimum of 40% of the total marks in physics and mathematics, which are required subjects, along with chemistry, biotechnology, biology, computer science, and electronics, which are optional subjects (BE). If a candidate’s score on the qualifying exam in chemistry falls short of the required overall percentage to determine eligibility, their scores in biotechnology, biology, computer science, or electronics will be taken into account in its place.

Students must take one of the entrance exams between the KEA/COMED-K for management admissions.
