About this college:
Sri Krishnadevaraya Educational Trust, managing SMVIT and Krishnadevaraya College of Dental Sciences was established in 1985 by a group of philanthropists belonging to Raju Kshatriya Community with an objective to inculcate in the students a spirit of inquiry and desire to gain knowledge and skills that can enrich their lives in future. The college was started by the Trust in the year 1986 and is named after SMVIT, an illustrious son of Karnataka, and an engineer-statesman par excellence. It is located on a vast expanse of 53.8 hectares on NH7, at a distance of 21 kms from Bangalore City railway station. The college provides an inspiring academic ambiance amidst abundant greenery and serenity. The college has nearly 3380 students and over 184 teaching faculty.
Principal’s Desk:
Dr. V.R.Manjunath, Principal of SMVIT, is a renowned academician and a seasoned administrator, who is recognized as one of the most distinguished personalities in the field of technical education. He has more than 34 years of experience in reputed Engineering Colleges & Universities both in India and Abroad and has held various posts such as faculty member, researcher, consulting Engineer and Principal.
A highly dynamic personality with great scholarly achievements in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Reinforcement and developing educational softwares for computer aided teaching. He has a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Mysore University and M.Tech., as well as Ph.D Degrees from IIT Bombay. His professional experience includes 3 years of post-doctoral assignments as Research Associate and Visiting Scholar at the University of Hong Kong.
He has authored 16 research papers in the area of Geotechnical Engineering which have been published in leading Journals form USA, U.K., and Canada. He has also attended several International Conferences abroad including Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong to present his papers.
Academic and Professional:
He is the member of several academic and professional bodies such as, Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education, Chartered Engineer- Institution of Engineers(India), Honorary Life member of Chikmagalur Civil Engineers Association, etc.
He has served as the Member of Academic Senate of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Chairman – Local Inquiry Committee of VTU, Chairman – BOE (Civil), VTU nominee for G.C. of affiliated colleges and member of nearly a dozen important committees of VTU.
He has received numerous Honors and Awards in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of technical education, such as “National Award “ for best technical paper on shallow foundation, in 1994, “The Best Citizens of India” in 2001, “Samaja Rathna” State Award in 2007, “Eminent Educationist” award in 2011 and Rajiv Gandhi Education Excellence Award in 2012. His inspiring guidance & leadership has helped many to achieve heights of excellence that nurtured successful technical brains.
Training & Placements Cell
The training and placement cell of the college is very effectively engaged in developing the students in all needed skills and placing in top companies. Students are also apprised on continuous basis through seminar and workshops etc. about higher learning opportunities in India and abroad.
Right from fourth semester onwards regular training is conducted on total personality development and personal grooming of the students. Minimum 35 to 40 top companies visit to the college every year between 90% to 100% students are placed.
The placement covers all branches equally including non IT branches Mechanical, Civil, IEM, Biotechnology etc and good number of non IT companies also visit to college on continuous basis along with IT companies. The training and placement of the college is headed by an MBA(HR) qualified training placement officer with 28 years of experience on HR/HRD related activities tasks. Impressive Journey! Mechanical, civil & IEM branches are also rocking in placement. In Companies like CUMMINS, CATERPILLAR, QUEST GLOBAL, CAPARO, L&T & NCC URBAN etc with package as high as 6.5 lakhs & 4.6 lakhs per annum.

WIPRO Technologies visited to college 2 times for recruitment of 2010 batch students. On their first visit on 5/6/2010, the company picked up 84 students & second time they visited on 21/8/2010 for left over students.. This was a rare phenomenon (same company conducting on campus drive for 2 times in respect of the same batch).
This speaks volumes of trust & faith built up between college & company. 19 MCA studentsgot selected under “Internship cum placement package” by Aricent, Fidelity, Cerner & Accenture through campus recruitment drives of our placement cell in 2010-2011. During internship these students will get stipend ranging between 5000/ to 20000/ per month.
37 CIVIL students got placed in L&T & 12 in NCC urban in campus interview conducted in our college.
