About VIT University, Vellore

Vellore Institute of Technology (V.I.T), formerly Vellore Engineering institute is a private deemed university institute located in the outskirts of Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1984, as V.I.T by G. Rankings

V.I.T was ranked 801-1000 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018 and 251-300 in Asia. The QS World University Rankings ranked it 271-280 in Asia in 2018.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked V.I.T 24 overall and 16 among universities in 2018.
Among engg colleges it was ranked 16 by NIRF in 2018, 5th by India Today in 2017 and 9th by Outlook India in 2017.
The V.I.T Business School was ranked 17 among management schools in India by NIRF in 2017 and 54 in India by Outlook India’s “Top 100 Management Schools” of 2016.

College Fests

There are two main institute fests that are conducted in V.I.T. The Fall semester hosts the technical fests in each of the established campuses around the month of August/September.

The campus organizes GRAVITAS, while the Chennai counterpart organizes TechnoVIT. Meanwhile the Spring semesters is reserved for the cultural fest of Riviera and VIBRANCE, which are mainly sports and cultural fests.

According to organizers for Riviera 2011, it pulled more than 300 participants from over 20 colleges and universities. Rivera 2013 saw popular names like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sukhwinder Singh, Chiyaan Vikram, Siddarth, singer Kartik and many more.

Campus at V.I.T

V.I.T has two campuses. Two former campuses of the university, in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh and Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh are now autonomous private universities, V.I.T-AP University and V.I.T Bhopal University, respectively.

Vellore Campus
V.I.T’s main campus is on 250 acres of land. It is divided by the Chennai–Bangalore railway line. The academic portion of the campus and the women’s hostels are to the south of the railway tracks while the northern portion houses the men’s hostels and the outdoor stadium. The parts are connected by three subways.

The campus resembles a city, with lake, gardens, lawns, residential complexes, food courts, hair salons and wide roads. The campus has its own water supply and backup electricity supply along with shopping complexes to cater to the needs of residents.

V.I.T is in the city of Vellore in India’s southern state, Tamil Nadu, between Chennai and Bangalore. It is 130 km west of Chennai and 180 km east of Bangalore. The nearest airport is Chennai (two and half hours drive). Vellore-Katpadi Junction is the nearest railway station, 3 km from campus.

Academics Centers

With the wide array of services V.I.T provides; everything is efficiently managed by the University’s Academic and research centres. Admissions

V.I.T admits students through its own engg entrance exam, called the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE). It is conducted every year in the month of April and May. The exam has been conducted online since 2013 and in 2018 212,000 students have registered.

Admissions for non engg undergraduate programmes are granted on the basis of the applicants’ 12th standard board exam results. It is mandatory for every student to have studied mathematics as a regular subject to be considered for admission.

Academics

V.I.T offers academic programs in engg, Technology, Applied Sciences, and Management. It offers 20 undergraduate programs, 34 postgraduate, four integrated MS courses, and four doctoral programs.
