The Government of Karnataka established Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell in the year 1994 for conducting of entrance test and determining the eligibility/merit, for admission to the first year or first semester of full time professional courses for Government share of seats in Medical, Dental, Indian systems of medicine and Homeopathy, Engineering / Architecture Courses, Farm Science i.e., B.Sc. (Agriculture), B.Sc. (Sericulture), B.Sc. (Horticulture), B.Sc. (Forestry), B.Sc. Agri Bio Tech, B.Sc. (Home Science), B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering), B.Tech (Food Technology), B.Tech (Dairy Tech), B.Sc.(Fisheries), B.Tech (Food Science & Tech), B.Sc. (Agri. Marketing & Co-Op), B-Pharma, Pharma-D Courses.

KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test)
Every year almost 4 lakh students appear for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for securing a seat in one of the KCET participating colleges.
KCET Exam 2024: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has commenced the admission application process for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) exam 2024 in online mode. The exam authority released the official information bulletin on January 10, 2024. Candidates who are interested in applying for the entrance exam can register at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in.
Latest Updates:
The last date to fill out the KCET registration form has been extended.
Candidates can get themselves registered till February 20, 2024, upto 11.59 pm.
As per the recent updates, the exam conducting body has informed that the KCET Application Form 2024 will temporarily not be available between January 13 and 17, 2024. Candidates can however resume applying for the Karnataka UGCET 2024 exams from January 18, 2024.
The KCET exam 2024 dates has been revised due to a clash with the National Defence Academy (NDA) exams. According to the revised schedule, the KCET exam 2024 will now be conducted on April 18 and 19, 2024.
KCET is only applicable for only Karnataka Domicile Students.

In Karnataka State, there are around 275 Colleges offering Undergraduate and Postgraduate Engineering Programmes, 21 among them are run by the Government of Karnataka and rest are private owned technical colleges.
Most of these Engineering Colleges are affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belagavi has 04 regional centers across the State of Karnataka – Belagavi, Bengaluru, Kalaburgi and Mysuru (Mysore)

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belagavi

Admission in KCET Engineering Colleges
In order to get Admission in KCET Engineering Colleges, you need to need to meet below eligibility criteria.
- You have passed 10+2 examination or second-year pre-university level examination.
- The compulsory subjects must be any three out of the given ones such as Chemistry, Biotechnology, Electronics, Biology and Computer Science as optional subject. You must have English as a compulsory subject
- In case of general category applicants of Engineering and Technology must secure 45% marks in aggregate. The reserved category must secure 40% marks in aggregate.
- In the case of marks obtained in Chemistry being less than required for aggregate percentage, the marks obtained in Bio-Technology/Biology/Electronics/Computer Science in qualifying examination will be considered instead of Chemistry.
In addition to above eligibility criteria, you must appear in KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority.
In all Government and Government-Aided Engineering Colleges, 100% seats are filled by KCET Counseling, but in Private and Un-Aided Engineering Colleges only 50% seats are filled in KCET Counseling by Karnataka Domicile Students.
Remaining 50% Seats in Private and Un-Aided Engineering Colleges in Karnataka, 30% seats are filled by COMEDK and rest in Management Quota.
Management Quota Direct Admission in KCET Engineering Colleges
Except Government and Government-Aided, all Engineering Colleges in Karnataka have Management Quota seats for Direct Admission in B.Tech or B.E Courses.
These Management Quota seats are restricted to 20-25 percent in a particular college for Direct Admission.
If you couldn’t get any college through KCET counseling, you can get direct admission in the same engineering college and same engineering branch through Management Quota.
In Management Quota, the tuition fee will not be the same as the fee under KCET.
For Example, if you get any college through KCET then your fee will be about ₹ 50000 plus miscellaneous fee of ₹ 20000 – ₹ 30000, but through Management Quota it would be about ₹ 150000 plus miscellaneous fee.

To get Management Quota Direct Admission in KCET Engineering Colleges, you need to appear in either KCET Exam or COMEDK or JEE Main or other state-level entrance exam for engineering.
If you want Direct Admission in KCET Engineering Colleges through Management Quota, you just have about 50-60 percent marks in Class 12th Std., or 10+2.
In this process, you have to pay higher academic fee than the normal tuition fee usually it would be 2-3 times more than the normal one.
