ABOUT BMSCE
In the history of Karnataka, the name of late Sri Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah (BMS) occupies a prominent place in the field of philanthropy. The Maharaja of Mysore honored him with the title of Raja Karya Prasaktha in 1946.
He Stared the BMSCE in the same year. He had foreseen the urgent need for high quality technical education in India even before its independence. The ideals for which Sri B.M. Sreenivasaiah stood continue to inspire the inheritors of his legacy.
After the demise of “Sri. B. M. Sreenivasaiah”, his dynamic and enterprising son Sri. B. S. Narayan, took over the reigns of the college. The institution grew from strength-to-strength under his able guidance.
He was also instrumental in initiating international collaborative programmers such as training foreign students under International Co-operation Division (ICD) and cross cultural programs with Melton Foundation.

Department of Civil
BMSCE is accredited with A Grade by NAAC (2013-2018) and Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi (BMSCE has the unique distinction of being one of the first Institution in India identified by National Board of Accreditation for evaluation under Tier-I NBA Accreditation Washington accord).
The undergraduate Programmes of the College have been awarded the Autonomous Status by the Government/University from the academic year 2008-09 onwards. It is positive reflection on the academic excellence nurtured by the college. Autonomy has provided Academic Flexibility that is required to periodically review the course contents and mechanisms of course delivery in the light of changing demands of the market.
The Department Civil was one of the three branches started when BMSCE was established in 1946. In the past seven decades, the department has seen a lot of progress in academics, research and consultancy.
In the year 2008, the UG program was given the academic autonomous status by VTU which enabled us to have our own curriculum to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes in students. The department boasts of three PG courses namely Construction Technology, Environmental and Transportation and Management.
In addition, the department is recognized as a research center by VTU and as a QIP center by MHRD, which has changed the status of the department from primarily UG department to the research-based learning center. So far about 9 candidates have acquired PhD from our research center and more than 50 are pursuing PhD and MSc (Engg.).
Department Of Computer Science
The Department of CSE offers BE in Computer Science and M. Tech in Computer Science. The department has well qualified, experienced and committed faculty to provide quality industry tuned education to the students. The Department Infrastructure fulfills the requirements of academics, supports research and learning skills on the latest technology in the industry. Department of Computer Science started in the year 1983 with an intake of 60 students for undergraduate programme. The intake was increased to 90 seats in 2000 and to120 in the year 2011.The department is accredited by NBA AICTE in 2004 for 3 Years and in 2008 for 3years.The department of Computer Science also has PG programme, M Tech (CSE) established in1992 with an intake of 18. The Research Centre, Department of Computer Science started in the year 2010 under VTU, Belgaum. The research areas of the center cover machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, wireless networks, social networks analysis etc. Currently, there are seven registered guides, accelerators etc who are experts in fields like artificial intelligence, wireless networks, medical imaging accelerators etc. There are 20 research scholars working in the research center. Department of Electrical and Electronics
The department was established in 1946 under grant in aid from Govt. of Karnataka with an undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics having a sanctioned intake of 60. The program has been granted academic autonomy since 2008 and has been accredited by NBA( Washington Accord) under Tier-I format. The post graduate program in Power Electronics was established in 1991 with an intake of 18 and has been accredited by NBA. The department has been recognized as R & D Centre under VTU since 2002 and as QIP Research Centre by AICTE since 2011. The department also supports undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics(Evening) as per VTU requirements since 1973. The focus of the department is to provide students with in-depth knowledge in the field of computer and information technology through the following two academic programs:
- B.E.- Information Science and engg (ISE) (4 years)
- M.Tech.- Computer Network and engg (CNE) (2 years)
