About | BIT
BIT came into existence in Aug. 1979, under the auspices of Vokkaligara Sangha, B’lore with an intake of 242 students. The present strength of the College is 2510. The College is provided with the necessary modern infrastructural facilities. BIT has high qualified and experienced teachers. Several companies have recruited BITians. It is of pride and jubilation that the students of BIT are spread all over the world and are holding important positions as engineers and technologists.
Eligibility – UG:
Candidates seeking admittance to the first year of the four years B.E. degree course should have passed two years of P.U.C. Examinations conducted by the Pre-University Board of Karnataka State or any other Examination recognized as equivalent by the VTU and should have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate of optional subjects. Also English, Physics, Chemistry, and Math’s should have been part of the compulsory subjects taken up at an earlier level.

Information Science and Engineering:
The department of Information Science and Engineering came into existence in the year 2000. Realizing well in time that the information technology wave has become a phenomenon in itself over the past few years, the College established a separate department to cater the ever-growing demand for professionals in this challenging field.
The department aims at cultivating thirst for knowledge, vigor and the vision to look beyond the evident in students. The students are well versed with the exhaustive and thoroughly chosen curriculum, guided as they are by an experienced faculty.
Hands on training sessions in various fields of application of IT have imparted to the students considerable acumen in the vast sector. The students perform project work as part of their curriculum to enhance their specification skills, leading to multifaceted development of their engineering concepts.
The students are taught subjects ranging from technical and Mgmt. concepts of IT, software and hardware to related portions of electronic and electrical communication. The course is designed to integrate knowledge from all these fields as part of their curriculum.
The students have access to well-equipped laboratory. Students are provided with extensive practical exposure to a range of software and hardware of subjects related to the curriculum.
Computing facility labs have software and utilities such as Windows Vista, Windows Advanced Server 2003, Windows XP, Widows 2000 Professional, Windows ’98, Red Hat LINUX 9.0, MS Office 2003, Oracle 8i, MS Visual Studio, Borland C++, Turbo C++ Assembler, etc.
All the systems in the lab are connected through LAN and have connectivity to other department labs. Internet connectivity of 512 kbps.

The department of Civil Engineering came into existence along with the college in the year 1979.It has an intake of 90 students.
The B.I.T Civil engineering established in 1979 department is one of the first departments established by the college. Ever since the Civil Engineering department came into being it has dedicated itself towards the never ending quest for knowledge and contributing with vigour in the development of Karnataka and the country as a whole.
The field of Civil Engineering has been growing very fast in the recent years as we have now realized the importance of infrastructure development. The department is committed to produce Civil Engineers which would usher India into a utopia of development. For the realization of this dream the students are prepared to perform, even in the most hostile environment. (
The department has come good on its commitment towards research and development by recently introducing the master’s degree courses in the field of structural engineering. The masters program is likely to produce researchers which would lead us to new developments in Civil Engineering.
The department of Electrical Engineering came into existence along with the establishment of the institution in the year 1979.
In this age of development in electrical & electronics engineers who hold the key to development with our horizon ranging from power generation to microprocessors. Founded in 1979, the department boasts of well-equipped labs & a well-qualified faculty. The department has endeavored in organizing regular field trips to various industries hence giving ample industrial exposure, thus integrating practical & theoretical knowledge.
To develop the overall personality of the students the Electrical Engineering Association (EEA) was formed. EEA holds various seminars, technical talks & personality development programs. Several technical institutions like CPRI, PRDA etc. have conducted various lectures & workshops. To add to the credibility of the department various project papers have been acknowledged by the industry. Thus the department has been successful in providing the students with the requisite knowledge required for a successful career.
Machines: AC/DC Machines, Generalized Machine Theory, Special machines, Solid state control, Traction, Electrical Machine Design.
Power System: Power generation, Transmission & Distribution, Power System & Stability, HVDC, Power Electronics, and Illumination.
Electronics: Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Electronics Instrumentation, Microcontrollers, Microprocessors, DSP, AI, Switching & Finite Automata, Neural Networks.
Computers: C/C++, Java & Internet Programming, CCN, Computer Application to Power Systems, Computer Organization.
MATLAB: Knowledge about various signals and systems software.
Placement Role & Responsibility
The Placement and Training Centre was started in the year 1994-95 with the following objectives.

A seminar hall is located right opposite to the Placement Centre, for organizing seminars and & technical forums. In the present day context of intense competition and survival of the fittest environment, success of any professional institution depends a great deal on the placement records, in addition to good infrastructure and staff. Over the past six years, the progress has been highly encouraging and several well-known companies have selected many students of BIT.
